How does a quartz broadcast system work?

In a quartz broadcast system, aggregate is broadcast onto a fresh resin layer. After curing, the excess aggregate is removed and the surface is sealed with another layer of resin or lacquer.

Depending on the selected materials and application method, the surface can be more textured, more anti-slip or easier to keep clean. The more the broadcast layer is sealed, the easier the floor is to clean, but the surface texture becomes less rough.

When is a quartz broadcast system a good choice?

A quartz broadcast system is worth considering when the floor needs to be more durable than a simple roller-applied resin coating. It is a good choice in places where the surface may be wet, dirty or used intensively.

The broadcast aggregate improves grip underfoot and reduces the risk of slipping. It can also increase the surface resistance to abrasion and damage caused by everyday use.

Quartz broadcast system in a garage

In a garage, a quartz broadcast system is often a better solution than a completely smooth floor. A car brings in water, mud, snow and sand, so the surface should not be too slippery.

This system works well when you need a durable utility surface that is less slippery and more resistant to typical garage dirt.

Quartz broadcast system outdoors

For outdoor applications, it is important to consider the system’s resistance to UV radiation, water and temperature changes. Not every epoxy resin is suitable for outdoor use as a wearing layer.

On balconies, terraces and outdoor stairs, systems designed for these conditions should be used, and the substrate must be properly protected against water.

Substrate preparation

The substrate for a quartz broadcast system should be dry, clean, stable and properly prepared mechanically. It should not be greasy, dusty or loose.

Weak concrete areas, cracks and defects should be repaired before starting work. Priming is an important stage because it improves adhesion of the next layers and reduces substrate absorbency.

What tools will be needed?

To apply a quartz broadcast system, you may need:

• - 25 cm resin roller,
• - a 10 cm roller for edges and details,
• - mixing container,
• - mixer,
• - tools for broadcasting and removing excess aggregate,
• - optionally spike shoes.

Spike shoes may be useful if you need to walk on a fresh resin layer during application.
